After Albania, Montenegro will also take a legal initiative in Parliament to legalize cannabis.

Supporters of the initiative are Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic's URA party and the Socialist People's Party, which is also part of the ruling coalition. It is the Social Democrats who said they would soon introduce the bill, which includes mainly cannabis oil for medical use.

URA deputies say for the Montenegrin media that they base their support on the latest scientific studies that prove the effectiveness of cannabis in very limited quantities for the treatment of some diseases. But against this proposal is the Bosniak party in government, which initially calls for broad dialogue.

In the region, only Northern Macedonia has legalized cannabis for medical purposes. The Albanian government is also considering the possibility of legalization for medical purposes, as the results of the National Consultation showed that 61% of respondents were in favor.
