This afternoon, Pope Francis appeared at St. Peter's Basilica for the ancient rite of consistory with a visible and large hematoma under his chin.
The Vatican cameras that captured him during mass with the new cardinals carefully avoided filming him from the front.
There's nothing to worry about and the Vatican says it was a minor family accident. Perhaps a fall that fortunately had no consequences.
"It is a consequence of the fact that the Pope hit his chin on the bedside table yesterday morning," said Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.
This morning, during the working audience that was scheduled in the apostolic palace, Francis continued without any problems throughout the meetings, even reading long speeches and cracking jokes. He also had a very small bandage on his face.
