Pope Francis has said he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During an interview for "Corriere Della Sera".
The Pope has discussed his many efforts together with the Secretary of State of the Holy See Pietro Parolina to at least achieve the establishment of a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The Pope has repeated several times that he is ready to go to Moscow.
He also talked about the first moments since the start of the war. From the first day he called only Zelenky, while in reaction to Russia, the Pope said that he wanted to make a clear gesture to see the whole world coming out of protocol went to the Russian ambassador and said: "Please stop!" .
The pope then asked Cardinal Parolin, after twenty days of war, to send a message to Putin that he was ready to go to Moscow, a request to which no response has been received and the insistence on a meeting with Putin still persists.
Pope Francis said that despite his readiness, he says Putin probably can not and does not want to make this meeting.
"But so much brutality, how can you not stop it? "Twenty-five years ago we experienced the same thing with Rwanda," said the Pope.
Many people also asked for a symbolic gesture of Pope Francis to pay a visit to Ukraine, but his answer was clear:
"I will not go to Kiev for now. I sent for Cardinal Michael Czerny, and Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, who went there for the fourth time. But I feel I should not go. I have to go to Moscow first, I have to meet Putin first. "I do what I can if Putin opens the door."
