The moment when lightning strikes the beach

Two people are reported to have died, in an unfortunate incident, as they were struck by lightning on a beach in Mexico.

The entire serious event was filmed on camera, and took place in Michoacán, on the country's Pacific coast.

Several people are seen on camera collecting loot from the sea, but at that moment one is struck by lightning that seems to spread across the sand and affect another person as well. Both fell unconscious on the ground.

According to the Spanish newspaper MARCA, the victims were a man and a woman, the woman a tourist and the man selling hammocks. The source says the woman was killed instantly at the scene, while the man died at the hospital.

The odds of a person being struck by lightning are rare, about 1 in 15,300.
