A mysterious disappearance of the Italian minister's husband

Luigi Cavallari, the husband of the Italian Minister for Family, Fertility and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella, disappeared at 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, in the waters of Lake Vico, in the Viterbo area. 

They were spending a relaxing afternoon and had taken a boat out for a swim. The 84-year-old entered the water to cool off, but after being seen to surface once, he was then lost to sight.

It is not clear whether he suffered any medical problems or an incident occurred on the water. It is also unclear whether he entered the water himself or fell from the boat. Investigators also conducted inspections of the small boat the couple was in.

Special diving units from the Naples Fire Department arrived at the scene overnight and Sunday morning, around 6:00 a.m.

Operations continued throughout the day with visual and instrumental searches, using ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles), camera-equipped probes and thermal imaging cameras.

It was the minister herself who raised the alarm yesterday afternoon, around 5:30 PM, activating rescue teams.

Experts are carefully searching the lake, but so far there is no sign of him. The incident occurred just a few meters away from many swimmers who had decided to spend Saturday afternoon in the lake.

After being pulled ashore, Minister Eugenia Roccella was sent home to the province of Viterbo, while the search continues.
