In the USA, only 18-year-olds are elected mayor

Jaylen Smith, only 18 years old, has been elected as the mayor of the city in Arkansas.

The young man graduated from high school in May and less than a year later, the 18-year-old was installed in his new position, as the newly elected mayor of the city in Arkansas, USA.

Smith, a Democrat, was elected mayor of Earle, which has a population of 1,831. He defeated his challenger, Nemi Matthaeus, the city's superintendent of roads and sewers, by 235 votes to one, according to unofficial results from the Crittenden County Clerk's office.

"I didn't run to make a name for myself. I ran because I wanted to help my community and move my community in the direction it needed to move," said Smith.
