Peace deal - US releases $12 billion blocked, for Iran?

Iranian state media reported that a proposed memorandum of understanding with the United States included the release of $12 billion in frozen assets.

The report cited an "unofficial" draft, while a similar article broadcast earlier this week was dismissed by the White House as a "fabrication."

US President Donald Trump had a day earlier given his description of a possible agreement to stop the war between the two countries, but key elements were disputed by Iranian sources.

Trump had stressed that "no money will be exchanged until further notice," while Iranian reports claimed that the US would give Iran full access to the funds within 60 days.

According to Iranian media, Tehran's delegation, which included the head of the central bank, visited Qatar to discuss the issue of frozen funds as part of a final agreement.

The report added that Iran would continue to manage the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked since the start of the conflict, disrupting global markets.

On the other hand, Trump had declared that Iran would reopen the strait "to unrestricted maritime traffic," while the US has deemed it unacceptable for Tehran to maintain control over this vital channel for energy shipments.
