Kosovo remains without an elected president, following the end of the five-year mandate of President Vjosa Osmani. In accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo, the office of head of state is being temporarily exercised by the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, until a new president is elected.

While the political scene in Pristina remains in search of a solution that would secure the necessary votes in the Assembly, sources close to political developments in Kosovo inform Shqip.com that in informal discussions, the name of renowned lawyer Përparim Kalo is being floated as a possible consensual candidate for the position of President of the Republic.

According to the same sources, Kalo's profile is seen as a figure above political parties, with professional integrity and long experience in the field of justice, which could make him an acceptable alternative for the political forces that have so far failed to agree on the election of the new head of state.

One element that, according to sources, favors his name is the fact that Përparim Kalo also holds citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo, in addition to Albanian citizenship, thus fulfilling one of the conditions for exercising the function of President of Kosovo.

Përparim Kalo is one of the most renowned Albanian lawyers. He served for several years as a member of the Constitutional Court of Albania, and throughout his career he has been engaged in important matters of constitutional law, arbitration and commercial legislation. Kalo is also known as one of the founders of the law firm “Kalo & Associates”, one of the most prestigious law firms in Albania.

Sources emphasize that up to this stage, these are unofficial discussions and that Kalo's name has not yet been officially proposed by any political entity. However, he is considered one of the figures who could serve to build a political consensus at a time when Kosovo is facing an institutional impasse over the election of a new president./Shqip.com
