Prime Minister Sanna Marin, who brought Finland into NATO, has announced this Wednesday that she is divorcing her husband, Markus Raikkonen, with whom they were in a relationship for 19 years.

Marin and Raikkonen, both 37, are parents to a 5-year-old daughter, Emma Amalia Marin. They crowned their relationship in marriage in 2020.

"We have filed for divorce. We are grateful for the 19 years we spent together and for our beloved daughter. We will remain good friends and loving parents. We will spend time as a family for the sake of the girl. We want you to respect our privacy. We don't want to comment any more," Marin wrote on her accounts on social networks.

Sanna Marin lost the election last month and will step down as prime minister of Finland, which she brought into NATO during her term.

The 37-year-old was involved in a series of scandals during the past year. In August, Sanna Marin was filmed dancing in a nightclub with Finnish singer Olavi Uusivirta. At the time, there was talk that they were having an affair, but these claims were categorically denied by the prime minister. She said they were just good friends. However, it is unclear whether this detail has affected her relationship as a couple.
