Regime change in Iran is unacceptable and the assassination of the country's supreme leader would open a "Pandora's box," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Sky News.

Asked how Russia would react if Israel, with the help of the United States, assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Peskov stressed: "Very negatively, we would strongly oppose it."

"This will lead to an action coming from within Iran. It would lead to the emergence of extremist atmospheres in Iran, and those who talk about (Khamenei's assassination) should remember this," Peskov said.
He also added that "(regime change in Iran) is unthinkable. It should be unacceptable, even talking about it should be unacceptable for everyone."

The comments come as US President Donald Trump said he will decide within two weeks whether America will join Israel's military campaign against Tehran.
