The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, in a letter sent on July 18 to the sole Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, announced that the European Union is closely following the treatment of national minorities by the Serbian authorities, especially the Albanian community in the Presevo Valley.

Costa stressed that "the rights of national minorities will be an important part of the commitments that Serbia must fulfill as part of its EU membership process," A2 writes.

He added that "Serbia is required to harmonize its legal framework for minority rights with international and European standards."

The Council of Europe is closely aware of the issue of address passivation. This issue has also been addressed in the EU enlargement reports.

Our commitment to advancing the position of minorities will continue – the EU and the integration of the region into it remain our only political aspirations!”, concludes Antonio Costa in his letter.
