Israel carried out a deadly attack in Syria!

A Syrian army officer was killed during an Israeli airstrike in the south of the state on June 19, Syria's state news agency SANA reported, citing military sources.

"Enemy Israel carried out drone aggression attack on two military positions of our armed forces in Quneitra and Dara provinces," SANA reported, adding that the attack resulted in the death of an officer and material damage.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in neighboring Syria since the country's civil war broke out. Israel primarily targets Syrian army positions and Iranian-backed fighters, including those of the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

The attacks have intensified since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union, in the Gaza Strip on October 7, after the Iranian-backed Palestinian group carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel.

While Israel rarely comments on attacks in Syria, it has repeatedly said it will not allow its sworn enemy, Iran, to expand its presence in the country.

Syria's conflict that began in 2011 has killed more than half a million people and displaced millions more, as security forces suppressed anti-government protests./ REL
