Czech intelligence: Russia will strike a NATO country

The Czech intelligence chief has sounded the alarm about a potential threat to NATO countries, warning that the most plausible scenario is not a massive Russian invasion of Europe, but a limited attack on a member state of the alliance.

Moscow's goal, he said, is to test NATO's response and unity. The head of the Czech Security Information Service (BIS), Michal Koudelka, claimed before the Czech Chamber of Deputies that the Baltic countries could be among the most vulnerable targets of such a provocation.

Koudelka stressed that Europe does not currently face a direct threat of a large-scale war like the one Russia is waging in Ukraine, but there is a risk of a limited military or hybrid operation designed to test the readiness and solidarity of the Western alliance.

He added that only a clear and united stance of NATO countries can serve as a deterrent to Moscow's ambitions. He further stressed that the West must show full determination to defend its territory and allies, arguing that this is the only way to discourage any dangerous adventures by Russia.

At the same time, the Czech intelligence chief also warned against two extremes: blind faith in Russian statements and exaggerated reactions by the West. He called for the situation to be analyzed calmly, realistically and coolly, avoiding panic, but without underestimating the dangers that may arise in the future.

His statements come at a delicate moment for the alliance, with Donald Trump threatening to distance himself from NATO and the US reducing its commitment to Europe. Analysts warn that Moscow could seek to test the alliance's unity and readiness at a time of perceived political weakness in the West.
