The rape of Petraq Milos causes a political storm in Montenegro

The violent physical incident of the Montenegrin police against Petraq Milos, former advisor to Prime Minister Sali Berisha, now a political representative of the Freedom Party on January 15 at the border point of Sukobina has caused strong political clashes in Montenegro.

Initially, the Albanian party Alternativa reacted to the event, which strongly condemned the act.

The video of the rape of the Montenegrin policeman went viral, and this led to legal action being taken immediately, penalizing the two policemen involved. Montenegrin state television announced that the acting prosecutor at the ZDT in Ulcinj, as it is unofficially known, has ordered the arrest of two policemen who are suspected of being the perpetrators of the incident that occurred on January 15 at the Sukobin-Muriçan joint border point.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Filip Ajhic, speaking about the case with the border police, said that the MIA has initiated all legal procedures.

If there are elements, he calls on the prosecution to get involved in the event. Earlier, the Ethics Commission announced that a video of that event appeared in the media on January 17 and that the same day the head of that body sent members an initiative to assess the ethics of the actions of police officers of the Border Police Sector.

But the Minister of the Interior, in the informative letter addressed to Genc Nimanbeg, the president of the other Albanian party, New Democratic Force, also blamed Petraq Milo and his son, Akil Milo, since according to him, they did not respond to the call to enter in the lane requested by the police.

This response of the Minister of the Interior did not please this party allied with Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic's Ura party.

"The very fact that it took a full 35 days to take measures for this case under the pressure of the published video, shows that we had a cover-up and tendency to cover up this case. In the meantime, without giving clear reasons, as there is talk of a staged omission, the Albanian chief of the Police Station in Ulcinj has been replaced", says the reaction of this party. While the immediate resignation of the Minister of the Interior is demanded.

"Taking into account that the minister is a frequent guest of Ulcinj and that this behavior and this way of proceeding shows either incompetence or other tendencies and strategies, taking into account the fact that we have a partnership at the local level with URA, Forca e Re "Demokratike invites the minister Filip Ajic to resign and the Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovic to dismiss him as a sign of determination that no citizen or guest of Ulcinj can be mistreated by the policemen as they used to be in Gazivode", this statement says .

Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic also reacted to this incident of Milo's physical abuse. He said that those who exceed their powers should be adequately punished. But, he added that " there is another side of the coin" , since, as he said, the video does not show that the actions of the police were preceded by a misdemeanor in communication.

"It's not like someone targeted someone and just pulled them out of the car. Someone must have committed an offence. Communication rules and queues were not respected," said Abazovic.

He said that the distribution of the videos at this time is related to the presidential elections in Montenegro, which are expected to be held next month.

"As we approach March 19, expect a lot more videos, graffiti, nationalism, tensions, a bad atmosphere in relation to Bosniaks, Albanians, minorities ," said Abazovic.
