She is considered the secret lover of the Kremlin ruler, Vladimir Putin: former Russian rhythmic gymnast, multiple champion of Russia, Europe and the world, Alina Kabaeva (42 years old). But this does not mean that she is untouchable. Before a major sporting event, where Russia will participate under a neutral flag, protests and intrigues have erupted against her.
Alina Kabaeva is coaching Russian gymnasts for the European Championships in Bulgaria (May 27-31). But the selection process for the athletes has been fraught with controversy. Parents of the girls who were not included in the team, as well as many social media users, accuse Kabaeva of favoritism and nepotism.
However, she is considered an expert in her sport: at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 she won the bronze medal, while in Athens in 2004 she was declared Olympic champion. After that, she disappeared from public attention for a long time.
According to media reports, she is suspected of being Putin's partner and that they have two sons together. Nothing has been officially confirmed, as the Kremlin keeps Putin's private life a total secret.
In 2022, Kabaeva unexpectedly returned to the public with her rhythmic gymnastics academy — a sport of great importance in Russia.
However, despite her alleged ties to Putin, criticism in Russia has become fierce. The reason: almost all the athletes selected for the European Championships train at her academy. Many suspect a Kremlin-backed "behind-the-scenes" conspiracy.
According to the Swiss newspaper "NZZ", the parents of the excluded girls even launched a public appeal to change the list of participants. Angry comments such as: "It's so low the way you're doing all this" or "I hate Kabaeva" and "Kabaeva is not in the mood because this is already a family matter" have erupted on the Russian social network VKontakte and Telegram.
