United States President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Sunday, saying its leaders must act quickly or face dire consequences.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “ Time is running out for Iran and they must act quickly or they will have nothing left. Time is of the essence! We will attack them like never before .”
Later, in an interview with Israel's Channel 13, he added that " Iran should be afraid " and warned that Tehran should be wary of him.
Speaking to Channel 12, Trump said the US is waiting for another proposal from Iran, stressing that " If Iran doesn't send a good proposal, we will attack them like never before ."
The military option returns to the spotlight
According to the American website Axios, American officials stated that the president wants to reach a deal to end the war, but Iran's refusal to make significant concessions regarding its nuclear program has brought the military option back to the forefront.
Trump is expected to hold a meeting in the Situation Room on Tuesday with top national security advisers to discuss options for military action against Iran.
This development comes after a phone call lasting over half an hour with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where the possibility of resuming fighting was discussed.
Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that an additional airlift of weapons and ammunition from the US to Israel has taken place over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Israel Broadcasting Corporation quoted an Israeli official as saying that Israel and the US are expected to launch a joint attack on Iran once they receive the green light from Trump. Possible targets include Iranian energy infrastructure, which has not previously been targeted.
Five US conditions for Iran
Iranian sources reported that Washington has presented Tehran with five conditions for continuing negotiations.
According to the Fars News Agency, the US has refused to pay compensation for the bombing damage and has demanded the transfer of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium from Iran to the US.
Washington has also insisted that only one of Iran's nuclear facilities remain operational.
Trump has described the Iranian response to the latest proposal as "very bad" and has warned that if he doesn't like the new proposal, he will "throw it in the trash."
Failed negotiations
The first round of direct negotiations between Iran and the US, held in Islamabad in early April, failed to produce any results. On April 13, Trump imposed a crippling naval blockade on Iranian ports. Meanwhile, Iranian forces have continued to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a near-total paralysis of maritime transport.
