Patience is running out: Will Iran respond to the American ultimatum?

The crisis in the Middle East is entering its 28th day, as tensions between the United States and Iran are rising sharply.

Following US President Donald Trump's proposal for a deal, Tehran responded with an attack on the Arak nuclear power plant, further escalating the situation.

President Trump has stated that "the Iranians are begging him for a deal," adding that they asked for a seven-day extension of the talks, but he gave them ten days.

On the other hand, Iranian authorities deny that there have been talks, while Pakistan confirmed yesterday that contacts have taken place.

The tensions were also reflected in a phone conversation between US Vice President JD Vance and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Axios reporting, Vance rebuked Netanyahu for his overly optimistic predictions about the course of the conflict.

A Reuters report has added to the concerns, citing US intelligence that only a third of Iranian missile systems were destroyed or neutralized during the February 28 bombings.

This leaves room for considerable military capacity on Tehran's part.

At the same time, international media reports that the US is sending around 10,000 additional troops to the region, adding to speculation about a ground operation in Iran.

Meanwhile, Iran claims to have struck energy targets in Israel and the Persian Gulf, while on Friday a new missile attack alert was issued in Beirut, where explosions were heard.
