The Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of Serbia, Snezhana Paunovic, stated during an interview with the Serbian media outlet "Kurir" that if she had had the same freedom of action as former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, she would have "ethnically cleansed Kosovo."

"For our shortcomings and stupidity, if I had been free like Milosevic, I would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo in 1998," the Serbian minister declared during an interview given the day before for "Kurir".

During the 1998–1999 war, Serbian forces committed massacres, murders, and mass expulsions of the Albanian civilian population in Kosovo.

Over a million Albanians were forcibly expelled from their homes, while thousands of civilians were killed or disappeared.

Her statement has been shared on social media and has prompted strong reactions.
