The trial against Raffaele Imperiale (still awaiting extradition from the United Emirates) and 20 of his associates has started in Naples. The boss, originally from Castellammare di Stabia, was arrested in 2021 and is now on trial as an associate of justice for importing seven tonnes of cocaine into Europe

When drug trafficker Raffaele Imperiale began cooperating with Italian investigators, he said, among other things, that he was buying "40 kilograms of gold a month."

With the laundered money, he also bought two stolen Van Gogh paintings and has now handed over to the Italian authorities an island he owns, which is located in an archipelago in front of Dubai. It is called "Taiwan" and it is artificial.

The drug trafficker from Castellammare di Stabia is accused of importing at least 7 tons of cocaine into Europe from 2017 to 2021 and of creating an organization capable of exporting drugs and laundering money, using a system of special and untraceable means of money circulation, called "Hawala", registered only in Dubai.

The news

The news was announced today by Deputy Prosecutor Maurizio De Marco in the trial where there are about twenty defendants, including the international drug trafficker, who is in the United Arab Emirates awaiting extradition to Rome.

The prosecutor also submitted to Judge Maria Luisa Miranda several documents containing two documents with which Imperiale announces his decision.

Who is it

Imperiale is an atypical criminal, son of the provincial bourgeoisie (he was born in Castellammare di Stabia), where he then became one of the biggest drug traffickers in the world, buying tons of drugs directly from the Colombian cartels, having a liquidity of big.

"For a period, in 2020, I bought gold in Tarì, which I took to Germany. We buy up to 40 kilograms of gold per week. I reinvested a total of 30/40 million in gold," he told the Neapolitan magistrates.

The repentant Neapolitan boss of the mafia organization "Camorra", has poured sums to recycle even by buying art: for example two Van Gogh paintings stolen in the Netherlands.

His criminal history only came to light in 2000, when investigators brought him back into the spotlight and documented Imperiale's relationship with members of the "Di Lauro" clan of Secondigliano in Naples.

Arrest and repentance

In recent years he has lived in Dubai, from where he was extradited in 2022. Then in Italy, he repents and begins to cooperate with the Naples Prosecutor's Office, because, as he says, he is "tired" of being on the run and ready "to change his life".
