US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte exchanged jokes, even though they were talking about a very serious matter, during a press statement at the NATO summit in The Hague, where they discussed tensions between Israel and Iran following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Commenting on the clash between Israel and Iran, Trump said: "They 're not going to fight each other anymore. They've shut it down. It was like a fight between two kids in a schoolyard. They fight like crazy. You can't stop them. Let them fight for two or three minutes. Then it's easier to separate them."

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte interjected with a smile: " And then dad has to use strong language sometimes."

Trump was even more direct: " You have to use strong language. You have to say a certain word," he said, referring to comments made the day before that "Israel and Iran don't know what the hell they're doing."

The jokes between them have gone viral on social media.
