A California man spent ten days stranded in the mountains after getting lost on a hike and managed to survive by drinking large amounts of water.

Lukas McClish, 34, set out on a hike in the Santa Cruz Mountains on June 11 but got lost. His family officially reported him missing and a search began immediately.

McClish was found thanks to a drone in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, California's oldest state park.

"There were multiple reports of witnesses hearing someone screaming for help, but the location of that person was difficult to determine," authorities said.

McClish was found without major injuries and reunited with his family.

He said he was tired and a little sore after the great ordeal he had to go through.

"I left with only a pair of trousers and a pair of walking shoes. I had a flashlight and a pair of folding scissors. I had nothing else. I just made sure to drink as much water as possible from waterfalls or streams, but as the days went by, the more my body needed food. Fortunately, I succeeded!" he said.
