The Vetëvendosje Movement has officially announced the former Speaker of Parliament and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Glauk Konjufca, as its presidential candidate.

In a statement made public this Wednesday, the winning party of the elections emphasizes that, after all efforts to reach an agreement with the opposition, it will propose for head of state the deputy of seven legislatures and the second most voted person in the history of the Republic of Kosovo.

According to the statement, the December 28, 2025 elections, which came after a blockade of over ten months, produced "the clearest result in the history of post-war Kosovo", describing the citizen vote as a message against the institutional blockade and in favor of the establishment of institutions.

Vetëvendosje emphasizes that, in accordance with this result, the Assembly and the Government were constituted without delay, while the next process remains the election of the president. For this position, the participation of at least 80 deputies in the hall is required.

As the winning party, Vetëvendosje announced that it had proposed offering a consensual candidate and that it had invited the largest opposition parties to meetings several times to find common names. However, according to it, there has been no concrete proposal from the opposition, while offers with specific names have also been rejected.

"Our political entity is convinced that in our country there are many names worthy of this important state position, around whom a consensus could be built to move forward. At this stage, new elections would be completely unnecessary," the statement said.

"At the same time, we once again invite opposition entities to propose a candidate. If you need additional signatures, we will assist you from our parliamentary group."

"We are convinced that this challenge is surmountable, elections are avoidable, and it is entirely possible to find agreement to move forward," the statement continues.
