Former Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has released an official document stating that it is a request that he, in his capacity as Prime Minister of the country, sent to Ekaterina Trendafilova, the president of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

He says that together with his staff, they have worked hard to bring home the liberators Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, but they have done this in silence, because as he emphasizes, good work is done quietly.

"Immediately after placing fresh flowers at Astrit Dehari's grave, on November 5, 2020, Rexhep Selimi was sent to The Hague prison where he is still being held. In addition to him, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi have been in detention for five years now. Five years of waiting, five years behind bars while the same reason is repeated in every decision to refuse release: "the risk of influencing witnesses," Kurti writes.

The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement says that the Special Prosecution Office has concluded its case and there are no more witnesses, so according to Albin Kurti, there is no legal or moral reason for the former KLA leaders to be held in custody in The Hague, but they should return home.

"I've thought so since day one. We've worked long and hard on this issue," he writes, adding, "But sometimes the work that's unseen is not known."

As Prime Minister of Kosovo, he says that he and his office have been demanding the release of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi from the beginning, seeking to put the Specialized Chambers into motion, directly through the head Ekaterina Trendafilova.

"I am making it public today for one reason only: because I believe it is right for them to return to their homes, to be close to their families, and to defend in freedom the just liberation war of Kosovo.

"Ms. Trandafilova's response two weeks after receiving my letter did not change anything. The requests submitted were not resolved. Our requests still stand, and in Kosovo there are all the guarantees for a positive response to them," concludes Albin Kurti.
