Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, where the focus of discussions was the war in Ukraine and the possibility of a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
The news was announced by Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, who said the two leaders spoke about developments in Ukraine, on the eve of the NATO summit to be held on July 7-8 in Turkey.
According to the Kremlin, Putin has reaffirmed Russia's readiness for a diplomatic solution, emphasizing that it must take into account Moscow's principled positions.
Ushakov described the call as "professional and very constructive," and said the conversation lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes. During it, Putin also reminded Trump of his permanent invitation to visit Russia.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine also remains open to talks, but according to him, it is Moscow that should take the first step towards peace. In a reaction on social networks, Zelensky said that he had a "very good" conversation with Trump, with whom he discussed the situation on the front and diplomatic developments.
"There is a real prospect of ending this war, and the determination of the United States will be decisive," Zelensky wrote, adding that they agreed to continue the discussion in person during the NATO summit in Ankara.
