Tons of fish have died in the Kasharaj reservoir in Lushnja, after the watershed dried up as part of the rehabilitation works of the dam and main spillway.
Footage from the ground shows a large area covered in mud and dead fish, some of which have begun to decompose, creating a serious environmental situation.
In connection with the incident, the Lushnja Police have initiated criminal proceedings against the administrator of the company "Fled" sh.pk, Fredi Marra.
Firm under investigation for water management
According to the Police, during the reconstruction works of the damaged dam, the company did not take the appropriate measures to manage the reservoir waters.
As a result, a significant number of fish have died.

The materials have been referred to the Fier Prosecutor's Office, where investigations are being conducted for the criminal offenses of "Damage to habitats in environmentally protected areas" and "Pollution of air, water and land".
32 million lek for the rehabilitation of the discharger
The Kasharaj Reservoir was built in 1985, has an area of 190 hectares and a capacity of 11 million cubic meters of water.
It serves for irrigation of lands in Myzeqe and fish farming.
In 2025, the Municipality of Lushnja allocated a fund of 32.9 million lek for the rehabilitation of the spillway.
The works should have been completed about a year ago, but the firm that won the tender requested an extension of the deadline.
Minister Salla: The responsibility lies with the municipality
The Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, was also on the ground, and stated that responsibility for the situation lies with the local government.
"This is entirely the municipality's responsibility. We are here to help the municipality and assist it in every way with the Drainage Board, the Director of Fisheries and the entire staff of the Ministry of Agriculture," Salla declared.
The minister also said that the entity that had the contract for the exploitation of the fish until 2022 was notified by the municipality about the removal of the fish before the intervention began.
While Mayor Eriselda Sefa, who was present, made no comment. Meanwhile, the Drainage Board's hydrotechnical engineer says that emptying the reservoir was the only way to open the blocked gates.
"This is also foreseen by the regulation that states that every end of September, the dischargers and water intake towers must be checked. Intervention is necessary, otherwise it would cause a catastrophe in the city of Lushnja. There is no other way to open the water gates," said Ferdinant Dervishi, engineer.
Korreshi: To fix the funnel, the entire swamp was drained
The situation has also caused political reactions. Democratic Party MP Saimir Korreshi was in the area and published footage from the reservoir.
Korreshi has described the situation as a "massacre", raising questions about the way the works were carried out and the water was managed.
"Tons of dead fish have emerged into the Kasharaj Reservoir. Truly horrifying what has happened in the Kasharaj Reservoir. The entire swamp has been drained to fix the outlet funnel," the MP wrote on social media.
According to him, experts in the field have told him that an intervention before the discharge funnel could have enabled the water to be conserved and the mass fish die-off to be avoided. This remains an issue that is expected to be clarified during the investigation.
Meanwhile, residents of the area have also raised the claim that the nets placed in front of the discharger by the previous fishing administration may have contributed to its blockage. (Boldnews.al)
