Comparing the cost of building Vlora Airport with the cost of expanding the passenger terminal and tirana Airport runway raises doubts that in the second case, the company "Castrati" has inflated the sums to justify extending the concession from 22 to 35 years.
In the figures, Vlora Airport, according to the project introduced a year ago, will cost taxpayers about 130ml euros. This includes the construction of the runway, the passenger terminal and all the other infrastructure needed for its operation.
According to the project, at this value Vlora Airport will be able to carry out direct flights to the US and other more distant countries. Certain, longer runways and higher safety standards are required for these trips, which Rinas Airport cannot offer today.
But what happens? To turn Rinas airport into an airport for transoceanic flights, it will take about 100ml euros. So, Castrati will spend this figure only on runway extensions and terminal expansion for passengers, the permission for which was granted a few days ago by the National Territory Council.
The investment will be carried out by the "Castrate" money, but the doubts that arise relate to the figure and the large difference between the two airports. So, in Vlora, where an airport will be built entirely from the beginning, the cost is estimated at about 30 ml more than the reconstruction that the company "Castrati" says will cost the expansion and modernization of Rinas.
Doubts about inflating costs can be linked to two reasons. First, "Castrati" used it to justify extending the concessionary contract by 13 years and secondly to keep at high levels the prices of tickets and other services at this Airport, despite compared to the previous concessionary, prices have suffered a decline.
