Bermuda Triangle mystery

For centuries, the Bermuda Triangle has been one of the world's most famous mysteries.

The triangular area that lies between Miami, Puerto Rico and the island of Bermuda has been cited as the place where over 50 ships and about 20 aircraft have mysteriously disappeared over the centuries, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Even Christopher Columbus reported strange phenomena in this area during his journey to the "New World".

But according to a British scientist, the solution to this mystery has nothing to do with interdimensional portals, giant sea creatures or visitors from outer space. Dr. Simon Boxall, an oceanographer at the University of Southampton, believes that the cause is wild waves.

In a simulation, his team reconstructed the case of the American ship USS Cyclops, which sank in 1918 in this area, taking with it 309 lives.

"If storms from the south and north come together and are topped off by those from Florida, it can create extremely dangerous wild wave formations," he explained to a Channel 5 documentary.

These waves, which can reach over 30 meters high, are so powerful that they could bend a giant ship until it "breaks in two," sinking it in just a few minutes.

However, not all scientists agree.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) estimates that most disappearances can be explained by environmental factors, such as the large number of islands in the Caribbean and shallow areas, which often pose a danger to navigation.
