The rare ancient sculpture "The Knight of the Baboon" returns to Albania after the exhibition in Vienna

The Academy of Sciences announced that the unique bronze sculpture, "The Knight of the Baboon", has returned to Albania today after two months of exhibition in one of the most prestigious museum institutions in Europe, the Museum of Natural History in Vienna.

The 2600-year-old work, discovered in 2018 near Apollonia (Babunje, Lushnja), was exhibited in the museum's "Golden Hall" from May 13 to July 31, 2025, where it was widely appreciated by the public and international experts.

According to ASH, the exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Albania in Vienna, in cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of Albania and the Austrian museum itself.

It opened with an international scientific conference, attended by over 120 researchers from around the world. Albania was represented by akad. Adem Bunguri, prof. Neritan Ceka, prof. Bashkim Lahi and prof. assoc. Eduard Shehi.

After the success of the exhibition, "The Knight of the Baboon" has returned to Tirana and will be placed for permanent exhibition at the Archaeological Museum, part of the Institute of Archaeology at ASHSH.
