On April 7, 1939, Italy invaded Albania. It was a short military campaign by the Kingdom of Italy against the Albanian Kingdom.
The conflict was also the result of a race of conquests between Mussolini and Hitler.
After Hitler had invaded Czechoslovakia on March 15 without notifying Mussolini in advance, the Italian dictator decided to proceed with the Italian annexation of Albania.
King Zog fled and after many stops in several European capitals, the royal family settled in England, where they stayed until 1946 before going to Egypt at the invitation of King Farouk.
In 1955, the Albanian royal family in exile settled in France.
