A serious incident has occurred in the village of Akërni, where a 70-year-old woman is suspected of being raped and robbed in her apartment. The incident took place on September 26th, for which 43-year-old Fatos Ymeri, who lived in the same building as the elderly woman, is accused.

The perpetrator is said to have knocked on her door and after the door opened, he hit her in the head with an axe, leaving the elderly woman unconscious.

The 43-year-old is suspected of having searched the apartment where he took around 700 thousand old lek that were there, but further actions have made the case even more dramatic.

The police also suspect that, before leaving the apartment, the 43-year-old had forcibly had sexual intercourse with the 70-year-old. After the complaint, the police have started searching for the perpetrator, who is also suspected of being a drug user. Verifications are even being carried out in Saranda.

Cases of robbery and rape of elderly people living alone are repeated, while the criminal code provides for sentences of 5 to 15 years in prison for these offenses.
