Italian citizen Nicla, already known online for opening her business in the first scorching days of July, not only brought new flavors of schiacciateria to Tirana, but also pieces from Florence.
After 20 years of living between Italy and Albania, during the pandemic, Nicla had no difficulty choosing the latter. In love with an Albanian, her life in a country not so unknown to her was not that complicated.
Over the years, Nicla realized that the curiosity and desire of Albanians to try new products were among the first reasons that led him to establish the first Tuscan schiacciatteria, on "Vaso Pasho" street.
As your feet take you to the exact location of the shop called "Il Giglio Tirana", in its logo you can see that white has covered the entire schiacciateria.
From a cursory glance at the emblem of “Il Giglio”, you can understand that the store in question represents the lily. But that's not all! “Il Giglio” is the symbol that represents Florence.
To better understand the weight of "Il Giglio" that she carries in her heart, the young Italian woman compares it to the eagle that represents Albania.
"Il Giglio is my home. This is the emblem of Florence, as the eagle is for Albanians. There I was born, raised and fell in love. I left there but without forgetting it. I took Florence with me to Albania," says Nicla, full of emotion as she explains that the store makes you feel like you are in her hometown.
A business idea through which Nicla claims she will reach the pinnacle of success.

But the uniqueness of the Tuscan schiacciateri, which the Italian thinks will make it easier for her to open other schiacciateri throughout Albania, lies in several points. From the menu that introduces us to Italian products that bear names closely linked to the history of Florence to the fulfillment of maximum working conditions for people who will choose Nicla, not only as an owner but also as their colleague. Not to mention the photos taken over the years, which you can see as soon as you cross the threshold of " Il Giglio".
Several photos hanging in a row on the white wall of "Il Giglio", which show different parts of the city of Florence, give you a sense of nostalgia as soon as you look at them. An Albanian citizen may remember an old neighborhood of Albania due to the "frightening" similarity to some Italian areas. While the eye of an Italian citizen immediately understands that they speak about Italian history over the years.
“Është sakrificë të hapësh një biznes tëndin. Do përkushtim maksimal.

The many challenges and trials of life, even consecutive ones, strengthened their relationship even more. In love for 25 years together, until today, fate had reserved for them the enjoyment of two pregnancies that would bring a void that was filled by love for each other. As soon as a new creature was formed in her womb, health complications took her life. The same happened with the two children, for whom there was no other way but to abort.
"Both pregnancies were the darkest periods of our lives, but they taught us a lot. After 2 miscarriages that saddened both our families, but more so my husband, Tan, I had to have my uterus cleaned out. I was supposed to have an operation that lasted half an hour, but I stayed in the room for 1 and a half hours. All my organs had stopped working except my brain and heart. Everyone thought I wouldn't make it," recalls Nicla.
As he tries to replace the tears that could flow from moment to moment, he gives a warm smile as if to show that he loves her and that he "let her go in peace."

In love with Albania and its people for years, the Italian from Florence reveals to us that her journey to our country has been quite a long one. After in 2002, her entire being, as she herself mentions, melted in front of the wide-eyed and charming Albanian, Tan, who was an immigrant in her homeland at the time, her trips to Albania became more frequent. From a few days of relaxing trips to Fier (to the relatives of her beloved Tan, who in 2005 officially became her partner), Albania became the final destination for them.
In 2020, when the world went into lockdown due to the spread of Covid-19, Nicla decided to spend the rest of her life in small Albania. After working online for about 3 years for an Italian company that she compares to Megatek, with the support of the Albanian who stole her heart, she decided to open a business in one of the most populated areas of the Albanian capital.
Although we can find Nicla from 5 am to 12 pm, dedicated to preparing the dough for Tuscan schiacciata, it is a bit shocking that she hates preparing a traditional Albanian pie with homemade peta. This is due to her lack of patience to open the peta in the typical Albanian way.
