The expansion of tourism is not accompanied by more employees. This refers to official figures. Data from the General Directorate of Taxes show that there were less than 58,000 employees to receive and escort more than 9.5 million tourists. In other words, one Albanian had to serve 165 foreigners.
"From my findings, I think that the number is much higher. We have almost 10 million tourists. They cannot serve 60 thousand people. From the data we have, there are at least 100,000 directly employed, excluding seasonal ones in tourism", says Rrahman Kasa, president of the Albanian Tourist Union.
In direct proportion to the increase in the number of tourists, the number of businesses in this sector has also increased. At least officially, there are 1,166 service enterprises in the field of tourism in the country, with a small increase compared to previous years.
