The increase in interest in tourism in Albania seems to have oriented the enterprises towards investments related to the sector. The data of the report of the Institute of Tourism Statistics in Figures 2022 report that only the number of accommodation structures increased by 8.4 percent compared to 2021. While the number of beds increased by more than 11 percent, an indication that in structures with larger accommodation capacities have entered the market.

According to INSTAT, in 2022, 1,580 accommodation structures (hotels, motels, camps, guesthouses, mountain shelters and other structures for short-term stays) operated throughout the country, making available about 48,000 rooms and about 109,000 beds.

"During the year 2022, the tourism industry has offered on average: about 39 beds available to 1,000 inhabitants. 65% of beds were used (stay nights) by non-residents; the capacities made available during the month of August are about 35 thousand rooms and 85 thousand beds," the publication states.

The same also analyzes the progress of permits granted for the construction of accommodation structures, where during 2022, a total of 51 building permits for the construction of hotels were approved, from 33 permits approved in 2021.

"The area of ​​construction permits approved for hotel construction in 2022 is about 199 thousand m2, marking an increase of 37.8% compared to 2021. The approximate value of construction permits approved for hotel construction in 2022, is about 7.3 billion ALL, marking an increase of 40.2%, compared to 2021. During 2022, Korçë district recorded the highest number of approved permits for "Hotels and the like" with about 29 .4% of the total permits at the country level" INSTAT estimates.

During the year 2022, about 7.5 million foreign citizens came to our country, while the year 2023, which has not yet ended, is marking another historical record for the number of visitors, reaching the target of 10 million.
