Albania risks losing 13 percent of its working population within a few years, if it does not intervene with policies that discourage emigration.
A survey by the Albanian Institute for International Studies came to this conclusion.
The survey conducted during the month of April points out the great desire to emigrate of the majority of the people questioned.
The survey found that the desire to leave the country remains very high, with more than two in three Albanians of working age saying they would consider leaving the country if given the chance to do so.
The other half say they see themselves abroad in the next five years, with 13 percent having concrete plans to leave.
The Institute's report advises that immediate action be taken to raise incomes and lower the cost of living.
Experts warn that Albania's continued high emigration is accelerating, driven in part by the triple economic and social shock, the massive earthquake in 2019, the quarantine during the 2020-2022 pandemic, and the inflation and economic crisis of 2022-2023.
