Albania is expected to benefit from 10 million euro grants in the next 6 years from the ratification of the agreement with the French government and the European Commission, for participation in the Interreg EURO-MED program.
The draft law has reached the Assembly for approval, while according to the accompanying report the entire program has a value of 293.6 million euros and includes 10 countries of the European Union and 4 candidate countries for IPA, which are Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia North.
This agreement enables Albania and all potential Albanian partners (public and non-public) to participate in this program through various projects. Meanwhile, potential beneficiaries are legal entities, local authorities, public bodies, non-governmental organizations, small and medium enterprises, etc.
Meanwhile, in accordance with the European Union's focus on environmental and climate objectives, the environment is the main theme for the Interreg EURO-MED program, which guarantees the continuity of the Interreg MED program of the period 2014-2020.
The Commission's proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 sets a more ambitious target for climate mainstreaming in all European Union programmes, with the overall aim of 30% of EU spending contributing to climate objectives.
This measure reflects the importance of addressing climate change, in line with the European Union's commitments to implement the Paris Agreement and the United Nations' sustainable development objectives.
