Year by year our population is aging, as the number of individuals retiring shows a progressive increase. SCAN Tv has analyzed the progress of the numbers of people who are of old age and benefit from a pension from the Social Security Institute, where it seems that in the last 5 years under analysis there is a significant increase. Thus, if the year 2019 was closed with 529,103 old-age pensions, in June 2023, 579,877 elderly people benefit from a pension throughout the country, and the increase results in over 50,000 pensioners added in 5 years.
But on the other hand, due to the increase of the minimum wage in the country during the last years, bringing it to 40 thousand lek per month in April 2023, the income from mandatory and voluntary contributions to the budget of the Insurance Institute Social funds have also increased from year to year, where in December 2022 they are registered at 103 billion ALL, which shows signs of the health of the scheme.
However, the increase in the number of retirees who are treated with a pension means that the scheme continues to be dependent on the state budget, which annually provides over 20 billion ALL in subsidies to cover the expenses of the Social Insurance Institute, related to payments of old-age pensions, family pensions, supplementary pensions, temporary work disability pensions, etc.
