Internal migration is a social phenomenon through which people move from their country of origin to another country within the same country. "Scan Intel" has analyzed the data of the "Regional Statistical Yearbook" to understand the movement of Albanian citizens and the situation of internal migration according to counties. The data made available by INSTAT refer to the year 2022. According to the figures, only 3 counties, Tirana, Durres and Vlora, have recorded positive internal migration.

The highest positive balance in terms of migration is attributed to the capital, where it turns out that there are 7,366 more people who came than left, followed by the Durrës region. In Durrës, 1,182 more arrivals than departures were registered, while for the Vlora region this difference is smaller, where 239 more people arrived than left.

Meanwhile, as for the counties with higher negative net internal migration than others, we see that the situation remains unchanged since 2019 where Dibra and Elbasani turn out to be the counties with the highest number of emigrants. In concrete figures, there are 1,822 and 1,283 more people who left than arrived in these counties.

If we calculate the net internal migration per 1,000 inhabitants, it turns out that in Tirana this coefficient is 8, while in Durrës it is 4.1. Meanwhile, in Shkodër, Lezhë and Elbasan, this coefficient varies from -2 to -5. In the county of Dibra, this coefficient also affects the lowest value -16.9, and this is explained by the above analysis, which ranks Dibra as the county with the highest number of emigrants compared to those who came, i.e. settled in this county.

At the end of the analysis, we say that the migration trend is towards developed countries. Mainly, the preference of the movement of citizens from different regions of Albania towards the capital is closely related to the way of life, the space for employment, the level of studies, etc.
