The signing of the Agreement on Social Security between Albania and Italy was the finalization of several years of negotiations between the two countries to provide citizens with the rights they deserve over the years of work for which they have contributed. So, if an Albanian citizen has worked for several years in Albania and then moved to Italy, the contributory years of work will be combined to provide him with a dignified pension. The same will apply to Italian citizens.
But how many Albanian and Italian citizens benefit from this agreement?
According to data from the Institute of Social Security, from this agreement, which provides compensation and equal rights for individuals from both countries, there are about 550,000 Albanian citizens and about 20,000 Italian citizens from the implementation of which will ensure the unification of the periods contributions, making it possible that no year of work is lost.
The object of this agreement are the benefits from the mandatory Albanian social security scheme, which include the benefits for: old-age pension, disability pension and family pension; sickness and maternity benefit insurance; unemployment insurance.
After signing, the agreement before entering into force must pass for ratification in the respective parliaments.
The first attempts to recognize the contribution periods between the two countries started in 2009, but since this process had more costs for Italy, they dragged on for nearly 15 years.
On the first day of the second month after the exchange of ratification documents, the Agreement will enter into force simultaneously with the Administrative Agreement for the implementing legislation of this Agreement, which will become valid at the same time as this Agreement will enter into force .
