In its tourism boom, where many foreigners have chosen Albania to spend their holidays, there are few who have chosen to stay in hotels, guesthouses or apartments. According to the Institute of Statistics in June, out of 1 million and 7 thousand foreigners who chose our country, only 17.8% were accommodated, reported A2CNN.
"We are a Mediterranean country that must take advantage of our position. But we are also among the biggest competitors in world tourism such as Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal. An improvement of the tourist offer is important", says Blerina Ago, tourism expert.
However, compared to the same period last year, INSTAT reports an increase in tourist accommodations. The South remains the favorite destination with 2.5 times more visitors than the same period a year ago. This indicator in coastal areas has increased by 75%. But there are many tourists who prefer to stay in the central region.
"Many tourism destinations already talk about sustainability. Where tourists tend to stay longer and spend more. Of course, we have a lot of work to do to improve the tourist offer" , says the expert.
The indicator of net positions has increased by 52.8%, compared to June of last year. Doubling has occurred in almost all regions, except for the north which marks a slight decrease. As for the citizenship of the visitors, INSTAT reports that apart from the Kosovo Albanians who historically have the highest figure, the Poles are the ones who lead from the EU countries with 9.2%, the Italians with 8.3% and then Germany with 7% and Spain with 4.3%.
