The euro has set another new record for decline, trading below the level of 97 lek for the first time.
According to the official exchange rate of the Bank of Albania, the Euro was exchanged on Monday at 96.91 lekë, the lowest historical level recorded to date.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, compared to a year ago, the European currency has depreciated by 2.6 percent.
Only during 2025, the euro has undergone continuous fluctuations, but with a clear downward trend. From over 100 lek in January, in the following months it continued to gradually decrease, falling to 97 lek in September.
This means that within the first 8 months of the year, the euro has depreciated by about 3%. One of the main reasons is related to the high supply of the currency on the market. In the period January-August alone, over 500 million euros have been withdrawn from the domestic market, as a result of tourist inflows and remittances.
Experts say that further developments in the exchange rate will depend on foreign exchange inflows over the coming months and foreign trade balances.
