What deposits do citizens prefer? The value of those with a one-year term

Total deposits in Lek have suffered a slight decrease during the month of August. According to official data from the Bank of Albania, the value of deposits fell to 777 million ALL from 781 million in July.

But what have been the most preferred deposits for individuals and businesses?

Most savings are kept in term deposits, while non-term deposits account for a very small share of the total. Deposits with a term of over two years continue to be the most preferred for both businesses and individuals, but with a slight decrease for the latter. Specifically, the value of term deposits over two years is 169 million ALL, 95% of which are owned by individuals, 3.3% by insurance companies, 0.9% by businesses and about 0.5% others.

Data from the Bank of Albania show that deposits with a one-year term are the only ones that have recorded an increase for both individuals and businesses, with a value of 130 million ALL. Here, too, the largest part is divided between individuals and private non-financial corporations, while insurance companies, credit savings, public financial corporations and other financial intermediaries have less money in these deposits.

On the other hand, deposits with monthly terms continue to be the least popular, due to the lower interest rate and the frequency of contract renewals. About ALL 15.5 million is the value of deposits with a term of one month, 5.3 million with a term of 3 months and 10.1 million ALL are the deposits with a term of six months.
