Billionaire Elon Musk has raised a serious concern: according to him, the world is heading towards an electricity crisis due to increasing global energy consumption.
Musk attributes this to two main factors, the mass distribution of artificial intelligence and the expansion of the use of electric machines.
He points out that each request to the AI ??consumes huge resources. ChatGPT alone, in about 100 words, uses an average of 519 milliliters of water. Considering that this system receives about 25 billion requests every day, the energy and environmental costs are gigantic.
"The simultaneous rise of electric cars and AI is creating an extraordinary demand for power and electrical equipment," Musk warns. He has said that current electrical grids are not prepared for this load.
While most countries are shifting investments towards renewable energy to replace fossil fuels, Musk supports the use of nuclear power. According to him, this is the safest way to guarantee a stable supply, 24 hours a day, with a much lower carbon footprint.
An example of this approach is Google, which is already developing small nuclear reactors for its data centers.
