Economists over the years have offered different answers. In his famous essay "Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren," John Maynard Keynes argued that, if incomes rose eightfold over 1938 levels, "economic problems could be solved, or at least would be close to being solved," so people they could be happy.

Although incomes have risen as much as Keynes predicted, our economic problems cannot be considered solved, much less happiness.

Just over a decade ago, Daniel Kahneman and Angus Deaton, each a Nobel Prize winner in economics, discovered that $75,000 a year—or more than $100,000 today—was enough to optimize daily needs. according to them more money than that fails to reduce the amount of time people feel anxious, stressed or sad. so they do not affect the level of happiness

In their latest study, psychologists Paul Bain and Renata Bongiorno changed the focus of their questions. Instead of asking how much money was enough to be happy, they asked their survey participants what they thought the absolute ideal life was, and then asked them how much money they needed to achieve their ideal life. Answers ranged from $10,000 for those whose ideal life included replacing curtains or carpet to $100 billion for those whose ideal life included buying Twitter.

Unfortunately, to date, there is no recipe that tells us how much money we need to be happy. Each of us is a unique being and our happiness meters are different.

But one thing is certain! Being a multibillionaire would change our relationship with every other human being. Keynes knew that people often want to feel "superior to their fellows," but when superiority becomes extreme, we unwittingly go from subject to object, and life on $100 billion must be terribly lonely.

A lonely life is the poorest life a man can have!
