That first trial 100 years ago was nothing.

This other one, today, is a lemeri! His Albanians have brought this trial to us and are doing it to Avni. Why?! What need arose?

I wonder: why did Tirana come back to Avni Rustemi?! Why are they judging that generation standing up around Paris for the rescue of the twenty-five-year-old boy and insulting that mixed crowd afterwards, during his funeral, who listened to Fishta's and Noli's praises?!

We have decided to tear up all the photos of the heroes of the past, since Enver Hoxha once stood in front of those photos?!

I join in the defense of the hero Libohov because I continue to consider him as such even today, but also because I have poured inspiration in my art path for him. Because I worked on a very successful work, in one of the brightest pages of the Bylis Theater in Fier, which aroused rare public attention and emotions and is eagerly sought after even today.

I am pleased to say that in that spectacle, lined up behind the main actor Fatos Sela in the role of the hero, the members of the Fierak theater troupe mark their career leading roles.

Yes, I can't defend the show. No no! To hell with drama and theater! That show could have been any kind of creation for a great patriotic gesture with names other than those of Esat Toptan and Avni Rustemi. I am coming to the defense of the national hero, who happened to be in a work woven with love and inspiration.

For the first time, I encountered dislike for my performance from an old Tirana man, the uncle of a close friend of mine, who hinted that we, in our field of stage and screen, did nothing but artistically repeat beliefs and the dictator's ideas.

There I heard for the first time someone praising Toptan's figure. He left aside the damages, the sabotages on the path of national state formation, the sabotage of Prince Vid, the fact that he rests in a grave among the fallen Serbian warriors. And throw away the heroism of Rustem.

This is not the topic of this article, but I must say that I was fed up with these adverse remarks, which took the heart out of my work and left only logic and interest. And that day for the first time I had to formulate the advocacy of my position. I will repeat this at the end of this speech, as I have to say that I am scandalized by this new noise of some historical researchers, some deputies and some journalists.

Whoever on television screens has had the chance to come across a union of voices, filmed under the title "Chronology of a paid murder", must have been disgusted with the arrogance of some supposedly bold historical theses from scattered excavations.

It is there in a chaotic mess, where historical facts such as the innocence decreed by the Parisian court, the guilt of a bundle of "chronology", where we were paid 5000 lire to a poor student, but an almost fanatical patriot, collide he has no money to afford the road and spend in Paris hotels while fishing for the assassination case.

The order of the Minister of the Interior, Ahmet Zogu, for the safety of the hero expected as a triumphant in the Durrës-Tirana area with many other esadists...

And this slanderous journalism of a "chronology of murder for hire" reaches its peak, when Avni Rustemi, the Kosovar deputy in the Albanian parliament, returns the amount of money to the lender, Rexhep Jella, and forces Jella to recover the payment of that June of 1920 ! I wouldn't be surprised at all in that movie if I learned that that sensational murder made Rustem a millionaire!

What kind of journalism can this be, other than the advantages of today's freedom of expression, in a slandered democracy, where we are afraid to question the statures of Skënderbeu, Mother Teresa, Adem Jashari and Avni with friends!

Why do I take Avni's side in this cloud of dust, which these adventurers are raising through the many television channels of Tirana? Just to protect my commitment to an artistic venture? I could be mobilized for this reason as well, but I have to confess that the love for this national destiny dates back much, much earlier.

I was about seven years old, in my native village, when my good mother sang while doing the housework and was asked at weddings for the song about this rare patriot:

Libohova, a very good, brave boy had Avni/... Who killed Esat Pasha/ I killed Satan...

And after the questions that we children asked, the mother explained to us who the brave man was that they sang dozens of songs...

Forty-some years later after those magical sounds of my mother's voice, preparing to enact his act and triumph on the stage, I had the opportunity to read his compositions in perfect Italian at the college of San Demetrio Coronas…

I read archival notes from Seine's trial, statements made before the French jury that was trying him, and which I, along with the late Sheri Mita, incorporated into the body of our play. Among all the entries about him, surprisingly we did not come across a single line dedicated to any girl!

This rare man who was killed at the age of 30 seemed devoted to only one great love: that of his country!

I must say that we must really give an account if we are sincere in the devotion to the heroes which, after a burning inspiration, we offer to readers and spectators. Or are we obedient soldiers of the dictators and statesmen of the time we live in, as an honorable Tirana man questioned thirty-five years ago?

No, dear sir! No, gentlemen of our democratic days!

Even if I hadn't wandered through writings, pages of history and documents, I could still stage a work based on worldviews, consolidated opinions and attitudes.

But there is no more plebiscite judgment, no more solid basis, than when my mother and important men in the country's history, such as Ahmet Zogu, Enver Hoxha, Mit'hat Frashëri, Fan Noli, Father Gjergj Fishta, Asdreni, the Kurbetli Albanians spread over the globe, or the Kosovar voters who voted for Rustem as their representative...

I add to this list the French judicial team that acquitted our legendary hero right there in the courtroom!

How can you treat such a historical figure, as if he were a banal killer, of the type of those Dumans, who are being tried today in Albania?!

Funny, it's a little! Your theses are an embarrassment of great proportions, to say the least…
