With two consecutive moves, the opposition has proven to be more divided than ever.
Ambassador Yuri Kim's meeting with Ilir Meta has immediately aroused Sali Berisha's paranoia that the latter is flirting with the Americans so that they can easily settle accounts with Berisha. The American reason for the Kim-Meta-Kryemadhi meeting is unknown. But whatever the reason for the meeting, in the Albanian theater, Kim has rehabilitated the public perception of them as a duo in their political twilight and candidates for "non grata", but at the same time it has aroused Berisha's strong suspicions that they are selling him.
And his reaction was not delayed by declaring for the umpteenth time that the competitor for the mayor of Tirana will be chosen from the primaries within the Democratic Party.
It is unlikely that Ilir Meta has real ambitions to be a candidate in front of Veliaj, as he has no intention of joining the DP to compete in the primaries. But Berisha's unsolicited statement was precisely to show his opposition partner that the alliance, like the alliance between them, separates them very little.
Berisha and Meta in their co-governments have killed and stolen together, but this has never made the pact between them solid.
Today, after the mutual statements and Meta's strong suspicion that the file of his cooperation with the insurance was given by Berisha, this cooperation is at a low point.
Meanwhile, there is no attempt by Berisha to bring the other wing closer to the union. Basha's group asks him to leave, which is unacceptable for Berisha. And this makes the opposition even more factional.
In the meantime, the local elections are coming and in SP Rama, the dilemmas of who will lead Tirana in the next four years and who will be the coach of the district teams in the competition have been resolved. And this disunity of the opposition makes the climate such that a repeat of the 2019 result is not far off.
