September 30 today. This season of protests is over.
Berisha promised this summer that the protests would start in September until the government is overthrown. Meta took it a step further, confirming that the technical government would be formed in September, immediately after the overthrow of Rama through protests.
Basha, on the other hand, that in 2015, every summer, before going on vacation, issued the ultimatum that 'the noose around Ram's throat would be removed in September'.
And of course nothing happened in September, as nothing happened this September, and nothing will happen in the other Septembers either, because the power in Albania is not changed by protests, but by elections.
Even in 1990 or 1997, when there were overthrows of power, they happened because of popular revolts, not because of party protests. The revolt starts from the bottom up, and erupts without a plan, unexpectedly. The protest is planned and organized from top to bottom. The revolt has no organizers, the protest has a podium.
Now, do Berisha and Meta know that in these 25 years the power in Albania has only changed through elections? Of course they know. As Basha also knew yesterday.
However, it is useful to create empty expectations for two reasons:
The first thing they do is that their militants can hardly wait until the elections come.
Second, because they don't want to face a bitter truth: Taking power through elections means being an alternative government, promising the Albanians a better government than the one they want to destroy.
There is no Albanian left without realizing that Rama is turning into an eastern sultan, taking away Albanians' property, wealth and the right to make decisions. But he is not doing this alone. He is stealing from Albanians to enrich the oligarchs.
Therefore, his removal through voting means offering Albanians a government without oligarchs, which fights inequality, and which promotes participatory democracy.
To do this, you will have to promise to cancel the concession contracts, and the occupied property of the Albanians will be returned under public administration.
But how could Berisha and Meta do this, when they were the ones who started these processes?
In order to offer a better government, you will have to promise that the oligarchs who have used the wealth of the Albanians, will be forced to return to the Albanians what they have taken from them, sometimes through confiscations and sometimes through taxation.
But can Berisha and Meta do this, when the oligarchs that Rama has today, have grown fat precisely because of them?
To offer the Albanians a better government means canceling the changes of 2008, promoting participatory democracy and democratizing Albanian politics.
But can I offer this Berisha who in 32 years failed to leave a successor? Or Meta, who has been running the party for 17 years as a family business?
Anyway, this is their problem. The problem of the Albanians is to build in Albania what their children are looking for in the world today. And these solutions come only through politics, which we can change through the ballot box.
They say it differently: this government does not fall in the season of protests in September, but in the period of elections from April to June.
