Life imprisonment, this is what the judges of the Court of Assizes of Savona decided for Safayou Sow, the 27-year-old citizen of Guinea, who killed his ex-partner, Danjela Neza , on the night between May 5 and 6, 2023 in Savona.
Sow was also sentenced for compensating the victim's mother with 318,000 euros and his brother with 100,000. The court also ordered his isolation for one year.
Public prosecutor Luca Traversa had asked for 30 years in prison for Sow, motivating the request in three aggravating circumstances (emotional relationship, premeditation and futile motives), but recalling that Sow spontaneously surrendered to the police and that he later cooperated with investigators by they were provided with the password of the victim's cell phone (which contained the audio recording of the last moments of the woman's life).
The last meeting between Danjela and Sefayou
Sow had arrived in Italy by boat and found work as a dishwasher in the restaurant where Neza worked.
A relationship was born between the two, which was then closed by the girl. In response, Sow had asked her to resign, followed by the final, tragic meeting in the gardens adjacent to the station. Danjela Neza was shot in the head.
Immediately after, Sow himself called 112: "I killed a woman, come and get me."
In front of the judge he then gave a correct story: the two had made one last meeting, the classic last chance to clear things up and maybe get back together.
Instead they argued, so he took a .22 semi-automatic handgun (with the serial number removed) from the car, pointed it at Danjela's head and fired. Then he called 112, confessing everything.
