Investigations into the serious incident that occurred in the village of Lozhan, Korça, where during a police operation, State Police officer Enea Mekolli was killed, while Edison Adri was injured, are still ongoing.

According to data provided by the investigative group, three firearms were found in the hut where the much-wanted Violand Braçellari was hiding: a Kalashnikov, which is suspected of being used to shoot at police forces, a model 56 rifle and a double-barreled shotgun.

During the checks carried out at the scene, no ammunition was found, which led investigators to suspect that Braçellari may have used the entire amount of ammunition he had at his disposal during the clash with the police officers.

A police radio was also found in the place where he was hiding. Sources from the investigation indicate that during the operation, the officers turned off their communication radios to avoid interference or eavesdropping on communications by Braçellari.

Meanwhile, the investigations conducted by the Prosecution Office and the Police Supervision Agency (AMP) into the manner in which the operation was organized and implemented by the Korça Local Police Directorate have not, to this stage, identified any violations of procedures or operational protocols.

Regarding the debate over the absence of RENEA special forces or the Operational Force in this action, sources close to the investigative group explain that the assessment of the level of danger was made based on Braçellari's criminal profile, who was convicted of the criminal offense of producing and selling narcotics, and not for serious crimes against life.

According to the same sources, the engagement of RENEA forces is decided on a case-by-case basis, based on risk analysis, and does not constitute an obligation for every police operation. Investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
