A cargo plane flying on beside German logistics company DHL crashed near Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania on Early Morning, killing at least one person, lithuanian officials said.

The late person was confirmed by Lithuanian police to be a Spanish national and flight crew member, but not one of the pilots.

The plane's other passengers, a German, a Lithuanian and a Spaniard, were reportedly injured, but their condition remained unclear.

The Lithuanian Civil Aviation Authority said DHL pilots reported no problems to air traffic controllers before the crash.

They do not rule out the possibility of a terrorist attack, although the main theories remain technical malfunction or human error.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Russian military intelligence had planned terrorist attacks in Europe using air-sent explosive packages.

In July, two parcels exploded in DHL warehouses. Both packages were sent to Lithuania. According to the report, this was part of Russia's attempt to test the fiasibility of transporting self-igniting cargo on international flights, including passenger jets heading to the US and Canada.
