The deputy of the Democratic Party, doctor Tritan Shehu, has opposed the expertise on the death of 3-year-old Brian Spahiu, who died after anesthesia interventions performed at the dental clinic of doctor Roland Xhaxho.
Shehu says that the expertise was misinterpreted by non-professionals, after it was published in the media. But also, in a post on social networks, he states that the expertise has reached unfounded conclusions.
According to him, there is no evidence that the deep suffering of the cellular organs is caused by an overdose of narcosis. "The coroner's conclusion is an excess of what they describe," he adds.
Full reaction:
Forensic conclusions - unfounded.
As Professor and Honorary Chairman of the Society of Anesthesia and Resuscitation I am making this comment.
This is because today the expertise of the loss of the child's life, during a dental intervention, was made public in the media.
Because on this expertise I am reading some unprofessional, unfounded interpretations, as is the conclusion of the expertise itself.
Actually, the description of the expert's materials that I read do not justify its conclusion:
"That the cause of death was the administration of the anesthetic substance, which brought deep cellular suffering with..."
And even more so any comment on the one that says "that this came from an overdose of narcotics"!
The changes presented in the material speak of a deep cellular and organ suffering, encountered by the development and fatal outcome of such a "shock" condition, with deep hemodynamic disturbances.
These are non-specific changes of a fatal course of shock, of its last hypokinetic phase in general.
As such, they don't talk about the origin and the specific cause, so they don't show that the anesthetic caused this tragic situation!
And even more so, there is nothing specifically argued about the "death-inducing" effects of propofol, as it is written, one of the most widely used anesthetics in the world today.
And all the more, there is nothing that connects this with substance overdoses.
So the conclusion of the legal experts is an excess of what they describe.
These interpretations and conclusions in this case remain the right of specialists in the field.
Of professional discussions and confrontations with relevant literature.
While anatomists and pathologists, in this difficult case for conclusions, should stop at their observation.
However, I take this opportunity to once again send my sincere condolences to the family, which, like the truth itself, is not helped by hasty conclusions and sensitive documents made public so quickly.
